A homegrown solution

Nearly six million Canadians lack access to sufficient food, or food of adequate quality, to meet their basic needs. This crisis disproportionately impacts remote and Indigenous communities due to widespread poverty, high shipping costs and short or non-existent growing seasons.

Green Iglu’s mission is to empower communities by putting food production back into the hands of the people through locally-driven partnerships.

Message from our Executive Director

Recently, our team here at Green Iglu has received some open and honest feedback from the Northern and Indigenous communities in which we have been invited to work.

There has been an overall message from them that we are in drastic need of time for reflecting, rebuilding and reevaluating how we are demonstrating our Core Values of Community, Integrity, Collaboration and Environment.

We at Green Iglu are grateful that time has been taken to educate us on our mistakes, and we are working to fix them and strive to continuously be better.

Green Iglu is but one tool being used by remote communities to tackle issues of food security, food sovereignty and community wellness. We are actively deconstructing our practices that are rooted in colonialism, and work on moving forward in a positive way.

We have many new and exciting things on the horizon.

We look forward to relaunching this website soon, with content that reflects the truth: that the hard work and project development isn't ours. It comes from the communities we are privileged to serve. Please contact us if you are interested in working with us at info@greeniglu.com.

Respectfully,
Ray Solotki
Executive Director
